Tom.com - Chinese mobile internet
The strategic goal of the Chinese Tom.com, based in Hong Kong, is to become the leading company in the mobile internet sector. Since 2000 Tom.com is running a portal of the same name and offers for example a cableless access to the internet. The Tom.com share is listed on the Nasdaq and on the Hong Kong stock market since March 2004.
The search results and the technology of the search engine at http://search.tom.com, however, belong to Yahoo.
Is it the right decision to keep one’s focus on the topic “mobile network”, the way it was chosen in 2001? At least, the share price has developed positively with a surplus of 40 % since the stock market flotation.
