Yahoo! Japan is an independent company which uses, similar to a franchisee, the brands and technologies of the US corporation.

Yahoo! Japan was founded in 1996 with the participation of the Softbank. The company’s shares are traded at several stock markets (e.g. stock exchange Tokio) and has been recently listed on the Nikkei 225.
